Deer, Duck and Dove Seasons are over until September.

Deer season was good with plenty of deer, some really nice ones

The hog hunting was only fair

Duck season was really slow due to the warm weather in New York, no frozen lakes or ponds this winter up north.

It looks to be an early spring so the fishing should be good, with the trout being underway now as the water has started to warm up. The large female breeding trout will show up usually in late March and early April through early June.  The flounder have been here all winter but will be more plentiful in early April as water gets into the upper 60’s to low 70’s. There has been good action on the flounder, but had to release due to the closed season.  That’s been good for the bass fishermen, they release what they catch anyway.  The red drum are in the creeks and rivers now, most are in the 15-24 inch size.  The larger ones will show up in April also.

With the weather warming and the trees and root plants sprouting, the hogs will get much more active with good number pigs being born in the spring.

Also, this spring we will have a 2 week squirrel season in May.  That will be the first season for squirrel hunting  in the spring in North Carolina.  So get your kids out for a good hunt and they will be more comfortable with the warmer season also.  They will enjoy the hunt and make great memories for both of you.

The fresh water fishing is good now with the crappie doing well along with the white perch and bass.  The bass will be starting to spawn in March, so there are some nice ones at full size out there.  Now, with heavy roe ready to be released on the beds.

Hope to see you out on the water or in the woods this year.  Get those kids outside and away from the video games and phones, so the can enjoy nature and hopefully learn to fish and hunt.  Once children get started they will normally do it for life and pass it on to there children and grandchildren

Take care and stay safe
